Lal Bin Tamang and his wife Mharman were an exception. In the conservative Nepalese countryside, arranged marriages are the norm but they had married for love. And when Lal Bin came home from Qatar, life together would start for real. They were moving to Kathmandu to open a small business, and they would be able to afford university studies for their son.
These dreams came to a halt in 2013 when a steel beam fell from the 16th floor and crushed Lal Bin. “The company contacted us and said there had been an accident,” Mharman says. “They said he had been hit in the head by something.”Her childhood sweetheart was dead at 40.
